Stealth Recon

From the end of the subway line she takes the bus 23 stops. The transit app tells her so. Figuring in traffic and time of day she should arrive at the hospital no later than 9 pm which may infringe upon visiting hours however Lori Ann hopes that they'll make an exception seeing as she's not visiting, technically. It's recon, undercover stealth research. She has her notebook, digital voice recorder and built in camera on her phone. The trick will be to fly under the radar and be as inconspicuous as possible, hence the sneakers and baseball cap. Just another random kid kicking around the emergency room waiting for triage or maybe on a friend or family member. Judging from the map she studied online she should be able to shuffle from one area to another rather innocuously in case security or an orderly starts getting too nosy. When Lori Ann takes on a project she goes all Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew on it. Too many latchkey kid afternoons in elementary school, hours poring over detective novels and mysteries. Plus how else is a 13 year old girl going to get into a morgue? Or an operating arena? If she wants to write about dead people and life on the edge and medical mysteries she figures she should submerge herself in the real deal. East side General is close but far enough away that she doesn't think she'll run into any neighbours or familiar faces. Plus it's supposed to be a pretty busy ER which Lori Ann finds thrilling. The possibilities are endless. Gunshot wounds, stabbings, traffic accidents, heart attacks, psychiatric flip outs- maybe even unexpected births in the back of cabs that came screaming into the loading bay and Lori Ann will be there at just the right time, just the right place to document it all. Serendipitous. Provided she doesn't get kicked out or arrested. She's not even sure what she's doing is illegal- maybe loitering, but really, people do it all the time. It's not like she's going to steal anything. What does she need with hospital tape and dressings? Maybe take a few photos, record some fancy medical lingo if she can manage. Who knows, maybe paramedics and doctors all speak in regular language and the stuff that's on tv is all made up verbiage to sound more complicated than it is. Wow. Fracture Clinic- she hadn't even thought about this- look at all the people in casts and on crutches- some guy has both arms and a leg in plaster and is harnessed into a weird looking wheelchair like contraption. Awesome. Now this, this could be just what she's looking for. And she'll fit right in. Perfect.
